Happy English language day, ladies and gentlemen! According to the United Nations, English Language Day is celebrated on the 23rd of April each year – the same day as the birthday of legendary English poet and playwright, William Shakespeare. The UN created language days like this one to promote and celebrate the beautifully diverse range of cultures out there. Right now, there are 6 language days in total: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.
So what better day is there to think and talk about learning English abroad than today? Let’s take a look at some of the main reasons why you should start now.
1. Connect with the rest of the world
Often described as a ‘global language’, English is one of the top 3 most widely-spoken languages in the whole world. Approximately 375 million people speak English as their native language, while a whopping 1 billion are estimated to speak it as a second language. That’s crazy!
What does this all mean? Well, learning English opens the door to opportunities, experiences and friendships all over the globe!

2. Get the job you want
English is widely considered to be the language of business, technology, science, aviation, diplomacy and tourism, to name just a few big industries! Learning English for work and adding a language like English to your CV or resumé is a big plus to any employer looking to hire or promote someone. Speaking Engish also allows you to build relationships and communicate more easily with international colleagues!
At EC we celebrate every step of your journey!! #farewellevent #ecenglish #ecexperience
3. Explore a new destination
One of the absolute best things about studying English abroad has to be the fact that you can experience a new destination and learn about a culture that’s very different from your own. We have 24 beautiful, modern schools in the UK, US, Canada, Ireland, Malta and South Africa, so all you have to do is choose a city to suit your personality!

4. Be part of an international conversation
Around 400 million people around the globe speak English as a first language, with millions more speaking it as their second language at different ability levels. Being able to speak the language means that you can participate more actively in an international community; from websites and social media to meeting new friends from every corner of the world, you’ll find it easier to build relationships and add your voice to the conversation.

5. Forget about the subtitles
This is a small detail, but you’ll feel very pleased with yourself when you can switch the subtitles off and enjoy your favourite English TV show without being distracted by the words on the screen! When you can understand what’s happening and follow a story without subtitles, you know you’ve accomplished something big.

Like we said, learning English at EC means you get to study in some of the most beautiful English-speaking destinations out there. You’ll experience new things, see sights that’ll take your breath away, and make memories that will make you smile long after you’ve returned home.
